Definition of an Elder
An elder is a person who is still growing, still a learner, still with potential, and whose life continues to have within it promise for and connections to the future. An elder is still in pursuit of happiness, joy, and pleasure and his or her birthright to remain intact. Moreover, an elder is person who deserves respect, honor and whose work it is to synthesize wisdom from life long experience and formulate this into a legacy for future generations.
Welcome
WHAT IS THE PRINCE GEORGE METIS ELDERS SOCIETY?
The Prince George Métis Elders Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving quality of life for our Elders, as well as educating our community on what it means to be Métis.
WHAT WE DO: We raise awareness of Métis culture through community involvement such as presentations in schools. Hold gatherings for social events, holiday dinners, picnics and other outdoor activities such as berry picking. We also organize bi-weekly Potlucks, weekly craft days and celebrate a monthly Family Fun Nights. » Read More
Meechowin Food Program:
The PGMES has received funding for our Meechowin Food/ Hamper Program. Hampers will be offered every month to needy Elders who are struggling to make ends meet.
To qualify for this program you must be a member in good standing (yearly membership dues paid)
Program Start date: September 2011
School Presentations
The PGMES have in the past visited various schools around the Prince George area, to teach the students about Métis History & Culture as well as a traditional craft. We always need volunteers to come help, if you have a story or a craft idea you would like to share with the students, please contact the office.
